IGroups Events: SP can help you run events through Interest Groups (IGs), and receive funding of around $10 per SP attendee. Funding can be used to pay for food for attendees, to provide supplies to residents for hands-on events, to bring in a speaker to lead a workshop, to gain temporary access to an online resource, etc. Budgets for IG events must be coordinated with the me (SP IGroups chair) before running the event to ensure that you are properly reimbursed, and IG events must be advertised through at least one IG email list. Possible suggestions for COVID-safe IG events include:
- Leading (or attending) a cooking, crafts, or exercise class
- Attending a virtual talk / watching a movie online
- Organizing a topic-specific reading group/book club
- Hosting a virtual talent show

SPontaneous Events: All SP residents can set up a spontaneously organized event and get reimbursed up to $30 for the event, as long as an email is sent out to the SP community (sp-talk@mit.edu) at least 1 hour before the event. You can also email specific interest group mailing lists if the SPontaneous event is more niche. Examples of COVID-safe spontaneous events include:
- Ordering+distributing specialty snacks
- Virtual karaoke
- Online games
- Setting up a Netflix party

Please reach out to me at sp-interestgroups-chair@mit.edu with any questions, suggestions, and/or help running your IG and SPontaneous events!
