Introducing the incoming SPEC

Webster Guan

I'm a second generation Chinese American who grew up in St. Louis (suburbs) and Chicago (suburbs), and went to Caltech for college. At MIT, I'm a 3rd year Chemical Engineering PhD student in the Kwanghun Chung lab working on applying tough stretchable hydrogels towards tissue embedding for human brain mapping. When I'm not injured, I play on MIT's Club Volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee teams, basketball, and a host of IM sports (namely, dodgeball). I also enjoy trivia competitions (e.g. Asgard trivia night), doing crosswords, and playing cards.
I'm most excited to work with all the officers, Heads of House, and the rest of the SP community to maintain SP as the G.O.A.T (greatest of all time) graduate dorm. More specifically, I look forward to creating quarterly budgets that both allow the continuation of longstanding SP traditions and enable creativity and collaboration towards new initiatives.

James Salamy

Hi I’m James, I’m a first year electrical engineering student from Melbourne Australia, and for the last n months I've been the 7th floor hall councillor. I love being a part of the SP community, and I’m looking forward to the year ahead! Outside of academia, I enjoy working on theatre shows, sailing and playing cello.
As the new chair of the halls, I’m looking forward to expanding the number and nature of both hall and interhall events, as well as the level of support available to all residents of the building for h olding their own events within their own communities. I’m also very keen to look at how we can better support members of our community who are struggling for whatever reason, and this will be another focus of the year.

Linda Zhong

Hello SP! I’m so excited to be your VP of Res Life for 2019-2020! I’m looking forward to building a great year for everyone at SP and working with you all! Also, feel free to contact me if you have any ideas and want to get involved!

Lucio Milanese

I’m a third year PhD student in Nuclear Engineering working on theoretical plasma physics for fusion research applications. Beyond science, I’m interested in history, politics and economics. I’m also really passionate about communities and their power to enhance wellbeing and empower their members to achieve great things! I’m really thrilled to be a member of the executive council this year. My priorities will be to make the SP machine more efficient by encouraging better (written) transfer of information between generations of officers, making SP greener and expanding collaboration with other dorms.

Matthew Johnson

I'm excited to be able to serve as the VP of Information. I hope to improve resident experience with the website, develop a new video component to our publicity and greatly improve SP's social media presence.
